Kill~ Refurb~ Marry: Thrill Rides Edition!

This month I'm playing Kill~Refurb~Marry with Mouse on the Mind and This Happy Place Blog! If you're not familiar with this game, it's the one where you choose three related things within a given theme: one you have no use for (Kill), one you'd like to revamp a bit (Refurb), and one you love (Marry). This month's theme is Disney Thrill Rides!

Here we go.....

Kill:  Rock 'n' Roller Coaster

There's a lot wrong for me here. First and foremost- I hate the launch. The launch leaves me dazed, queasy, and unable to appreciate/enjoy any part of the rest of the ride. Am I too old for this ride? Perhaps. I've heard the aging process messes with ones ability to deal with this kind of equilibrium shift. Not fun at all for me. Add to it the cheesy recording studio intro, the pseudo-"rock-n-roll" gifts and decor, and the huge footprint it occupies, which could be better used for something else- this one is at the very bottom of my attractions list. And Aerosmith? No.

Refurb:   Space Mountain

I love the theming, I love the iconic nature of the building and the attraction. I love sci-fi, I love space exploration themes, I love retro space design. But man does this one leave me hurting! This is a painful ride to endure. A chiropractor should set up shop just outside the exit. I'd love to see a refurb that makes this ride a bit more smooth, a bit less whiplashy. I really want to be able to enjoy this attraction... but it's honestly quite painful.

Marry:   Indiana Jones Adventure

We head to Disneyland for my very favorite Disney attraction. I would marry you, Indy. I love everything single thing about this attraction. The extended, highly-themed queue, the story line, the vehicles, the wild edge-of-your-seat ride, the giant snake, the sense of being right in the Indy action....I could go on. Yes, I know it's the same ride platform as Dinosaur at Animal Kingdom...but even though I love Dinosaur, there's just something about the Indiana Jones theming that gives this version of the ride the upper hand. I once rode this attraction (single rider line) six times in one day. That's how much I love Indiana Jones Adventure...

Play along! Tell us about your ideas for Kill~Refurb~Marry in the comments. Better yet, write a post and participate in the blog hop!

  1. KJ - looks like quite a few of us picked Space as a must-refurb. I hope someone is listening...anybody...

Also, I STILL haven't been on Indy. I'm dying to do it. I must get out to DL some day soon.

  2. I'm so glad you chose a Disneyland attraction! That's so much fun. I only went on IJ once, and I remember really liking it. I would love to see something like this in DHS. If only, if only.

And seriously, am I the only Aerosmith out there ;) I know what you mean about the beginning... I anticipate it so much but then the whole ride is SO MUCH FUN.

But you are correct about the huge footprint. Oh the possibilities.

    Thanks for joining us today!

  3. Love your refurb, KJ! I kind of feel bad that I shot Space in the face.

So jelly that you've ridden Indy ... also, I'd expect you'd marry INDY as well as the ride, right? :)

  4. Hhmm. Tough post. Was kind of shocked to read this.
~RRC- Kill? Wow. My family loves it. Glad you're not in charge!
~Space Mountain? Love it just the way it is. It's like loving the stairs that creak in your old house or the way your favorite jeans have a hole in the knee.
~Indy? I've never tried it... I look forward to one day experiencing it...it must be fantastic if RRC and Space Mountain (two of our fav's) are getting dinged by you!

Kill - if pushed, I'd have to say the Stitch ride. Very disappointing. Taking up valuable space in Tomorrowland.
Refurb- The whole Riverboat/Tom Sawyer Island. Make it more of a draw. Doesn't have enough appeal to lure us away from the rest of the MK right now.
Marry - TeamBoat Springs - and basically the entire park over at Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon.

    1. I agree with yours, on an all-attractions basis; this particular game was targeting thrill rides only, though. Neither RnR nor Space Mountain would be on my list if it was including everything!

  5. I like your choices! If they ever refurb Space Mountain we should ride it together. :) I loved the Indiana Jones attraction too. I'd marry it if it was a little easier for me to get into the jeep but it's definitely in my top 10 favorites.

  6. I also picked Space Mountain to refurb! I can't wait to eventually get to Disneyland, Indy sounds like a great ride :)
